Lisbon, 28th June 2010 – From 9th to 11th December, Lisbon hosts the European Skills Competition, EuroskillsLisboa2010, the greatest international event ever held in Portugal in vocational training.
The ideal meeting point for protagonists of the vocational training area – businesspersons, managers, young people and trainers – this is the place where, under the rigorous assessment of 800 judges, experts and observers, the young people will test their capacities, precision and competence, as well as their skills regarding the techniques and tools used in their activities.
Creative Arts & Fashion, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Transportation & Logistics, Information and Communication Technology, Civil Construction & Public Works, Social & Personal Services correspond to the 6 categories under competition, distributed over 50 thousand m2 of workshop areas, in an event which, in view of its size, involves over 2 thousand people in its organisation.
Under the motto “To choose, you need to know””, the organisation expects Euroskills Lisbon 2010 to be visited by over 50 thousand people, in particular students from schools all over the country. In addition to the competition, the programme includes exhibitions, workshops, seminars, meetings and a great number of activities linked to professional guidance, the professions, knowledge and science.
Portugal, through the Employment and Vocational Training Institute (Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional - IEFP), is a founding member of WorldSkills International and is represented on the Executive Committee of the European Skills Promotion Organization (ESPO). Therefore, IEFP is responsible for the implementation of the activities related to the Skills Competitions, in accordance with the international regulations.
The concept of the Skills Competitions / WorldSkills was originated, in 1950, with the organization of the first competitions in Madrid, involving Portugal and Spain. This innovative concept later took on a global dimension, under the name of WorldSkills and more recently, with the European Competitions, EuroSkills, started in 2008, in Rotterdam.
The importance and objectives of EuroSkills Lisboa 2010 are the expression of the path followed, of our modernity and of the strong connection of Portugal to Europe. |
